Hayden, schmayden
Oh joy! Joy and cat dancing. The Supreme Court has confirmed what we all knew right along: the incarceration of fellow traveller David Hicks was (and is) an appalling violation of human rights (and I don't mean that in a speciesist way).
Needless to say, our foes on the right are underwhelmed, to say the least. Here's a typically coarse comment from the boorish Matt Hayden:
Still, he's just one guy. Who gives a shit? There are many far more severe injustices to get cranky about.
Don't speak so soon, Herr Hayden. You may live to regret those words. Next time, that "one guy" could be you.

Nazi violates our union
So the appalling Matt Hayden thinks that I want to marry my feisty animal companion Jocelyn?
Well, Matt has got it wrong as usual. Jocelyn and I will never marry. That would be just plain crazy! Marriage is an inherently oppressive institution, after all.

Yes, Tony (and Julia) grubs were offended!
Fellow travellers, no doubt you are all as appalled as Jocelyn and I are over this latest farce in the nation's capital. Sassy sister Julia Gillard has been banned for 24 hrs for calling an MP a "snivelling grub", even though Tony Abbott did exactly the same thing recently with no negative consequences. Obviously, this highlights the appallingy sexist culture of Canberra. But there is another, equally sinister prejudice at play here ...
Though in many ways Julia -- our own "Commander in Chief" (well she would be if Australians weren't so naturally conservative!) -- is highly empowered and emancipated she has in this case revealed a kind of complicity with the conservative agenda. By repeating Abbott's appalling insult to highlight phallocentric patriarchalism she has shown that she, too (albeit unconsciously) thinks that to call someone a "grub" is offensive.
But why is it deemed offensive? Because non animal creatures ("humans") find them disgusting, that's why! Yes, insect larva are slightly aesthetically challenged, and very immature in their outlook (even by their own species' standards). Yet they have feelings too, and deserve to be treated with respect!
I never thought I'd say this, but Julia Gillard, you were being speciesist and ageist. Shame on you!
