The Earth didn't move for me!
Of course the right-wing of the blogosphere is simply over the moon about the "rescue" of Todd Russell and Brant Webb. But the more sensitive among us are not so enthusiastic (to say the least!). No, unlike the appalling air-punching Nazis now whooping it up all over this fascist nation, we are aware that the so-called "accident" that trapped those unreconstructed testosteroids was no such thing. No, it was an act of Goddess.
Clearly, one of Ms Universe's feisty daughters had consorted with Sister Nature and decided to teach miners -- those rapists of the Earth! -- a lesson.
Bid did they -- and their industry -- heed the warning? Of course not. In their usual phallocentric, technophillic way, they continued with their appalling violation of the planet. It was phallocentric Earth-rape that put them in their predicament and it was phallocentric Earth-rape that "saved" them from it.
And, to add insult to injury, the appalling Brant Webb chose to devour a murdered non-human person (along with some stolen animal products) for his first meal after his "ordeal". How coarse.
Gaia will now be planning an even sterner rebuke, I can assure you.
Not only was what happened in Beaconsfield offensive; also what didn't happen. You see, no effort was spared in the bid to "free" the miners. That was because they were white males. But what if they had been women, or Muslims. Would they have generated such a concerted, costly effort and media interest then?
I wonder ...
