Sassy sister concurs on Cronulla
Fellow travellers, much of the feedback I get to my posts is just coarse abuse from red-necked phillistines who just don't want to accept that we in Australia live under the world's most racist, fascist regime. This appalling attitude is echoed throughout the blogosphere, which tragically seems to be dominated by reactionary peenie-wavers. But then, every now and then I get a fellow traveller in some distant corner of the globe saying exactly what I have said. Believe me, it makes it all worthwhile.
Take today, for instance. A feisty fellow traveller all the way over in England has echoed my previous post with some coruscating analysis of the real causes behind the weekend violence at Cronulla and other beaches.
I will link to her post in due course, but first I think I should warn the more radical feminists reading this that you might find her appearance somewhat offensive. She looks quite "feminine", although not in an ironic, deconstructive way. She does seem to have capitulated to that whole "male gaze" paradigm by dyeing her hair blonde. (In fact, she looks spookily like Anne Coulter, to be honest!) So, she is participating in her own oppression -- at least in a socio-chromatico-follicular sense -- and that does dilute the revolutionary power (or should I say, empowerment) of her words. But ultimately this is a minor issue; they are still searingly sassy and right on:
Who is Howard trying to kid? He is Neo-Con Zionist who won an election running on a platform of race hatred. The thousands of white men who took part in these race riots were not Neo Nazis, they were typical Australian men, Australia has always been a racist country and was until relatively recently an Apartheid State. The country escaped sanctions unlike South Africa because of it close relationship to both Britain and the United States.
Howard is as much to blame as anyone for inciting the crowd his government has been over-hyping up the threat of terrorism since 11 September 2001 and one of the most enthusiastic fans of the American War on Islam. His one of the first people to suggest that Muslim women ought not to public wear the Hijab because he thinks it is provocative. The difference between Howard and the rioters is that he is too much of a coward to take part.
Steph, I couldn't have put it better myself. Yougogirl!
UPDATE: Swarthy avengers have just delivered some karmic retribution to the racist white trash. Yougoguys! (And I mean that in a pacifist way, of course.)
UPDATE: One more fellow traveller speaks truth to power (and when I say truth, I don't mean that in an absolutist sense). He is another ashamed-to-be-Australian called Pip Wilson and, like me, a fan of permaculture! In his searing post he cites that appalling article by John Stone as one of the root causes of yesterday's violence.
Interesting that you say that, Pip, because when Jocelyn and I astral-travelled to Cronulla yesterday and hovered above the hoi-polloi we saw many of them clutching that notorious November 17 issue of The Australian, periodically glancing at that particular article to fuel their rage before entering the melee.

I am keeping a list of blogs that are reporting and posting pictures about the Australian riots. Some of these first hand accounts of racially motivated beatings are unreal.

This country you talk about sounds so horrible . . . surely refugees must be fleeing night and day from such a terrible regime . . .
